With reference to my despatch of February
7th., I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that I have
continued to urge the ai Wu Pu to take steps for the prohibi-
-tion of the export of prepared opium from China to Hongkong,
and to meet Your Excellency's wishes in issuing this prohibi-
-tion under an Imperial Decree.
On February 26th., I received a semi-
-official letter from the "ai Wu Pu, translation of which I
have the honour to enclose, stating that they are in tele- -graphic communication with the Viceroy at canton upon this subject, and that as soon as they receive a reply they will
communicate with me officially on the question.
